Madera
Madera Fairgrounds

OK, here's the deal about the Madera Fairgrounds.  All of the people I've met in this sport have been way cool - except one.  The lady/family that operates this facility was a true bitch.  Here's why - when I first got started in this sport, and had no clue where to ride, I was at Clawson Honda (my local bike dealership) and was talking with the race team manager about good places to practice.  She mentioned this place and said it was open to everyone - I said, "are you sure there is no entry fee or membership required"?  She said "nope, it's open to the public".  Being a new rider, I didn't know any better and headed on out one weekend.  I was pleased to find I had the entire track to myself and figured it was because it was really muddy, right after a rain, and nobody wanted to ride.  There were other people around the track and none of them said anything to me - the place was wide open - no fences, and no signs that specified any kind of hours, and all the gates were open, so I figured it was all good and started tearing it up.

As I was packing up, this lady drove up, and identified herself as the family that owned the track.  She asked what I was doing here and I told her that I'd been told it was cool to ride here.  She the proceeded to berate me, saying that I was going to "ruin it for everyone and get everyone kicked out" - basically calling me a liar.  I told her that had I known, I wouldn't be riding there.  I don't like having my integrity questioned - especially by some bitch who doesn't know me from adam.

One thing doesn't make sense though - if riding here will "ruin it for everyone", why is it that every weekend (except one) that I drive past this track, there is not a soul on it?  What is the deal here?  What good is a track if nobody is allowed to ride or practice on it?  I'm still trying to figure that out, but suffice to say, if I wasn't supposed to be here, it was an honest mistake and that lady was a rude bitch.  I'm just glad that everyone else in this sport isn't like her.
